Pic of the week 27/11/16

Its busy, busy, busy at Peabody Towers at the moment – me with reports, Becky with black Friday orders, and two days supply at WCJS on Thursday & Friday, Sophie working at Hallmark cards in Clarks Village and Sam all loved up and spending his time with his girlfriend, so not much time to think about this post, just whap up a photo of me on the sofa watching Narcos. (Note the co-ordinating socks & headphones!)

Oh, and to add to the rich mix that is the variety of life, on Tuesday morning the boiler packed in and stopped giving us hot water. Three smelly days, one diverter valve and £300 later its working again.

Two weeks to the end of term – light has been glimpsed at the end of the tunnel.

So Friday saw, at long last, exeat arrive. The opportunity to have two – yes, two – full days off was seized eagerly by all. And I have been disciplined enough to take those two days off as days off and not fill them with school work. ‘Tis now a manageable 3 week chunk until the Christmas holidays (although the wearisome prospect of reports – again – rear their ugly head.)

Bit of a calamity on Saturday – the clothes came out of the washing machine soaking wet. Re-spun them, still soaking wet. Opened the filter and loads of water drained out. However, couldn’t clean the filter and, more importantly, couldn’t re-seat the filter without getting a leak, so a new machine was needed.

I was due to ref in Ilchester that afternoon, so reserved a machine from Curry’s in Yeovil and went straight their to collect it after the game (Huish AFC v Oddcombe Reserves 1-0 to the visitors.  Match report video below.) Car park was heaving, had to double park. Came out 15 mins later to find a parking ticket. Bu&&er. And the machine wasn’t as simple to fit as I’d hoped (hole for plug in work surface not big enough)

Oh well, all’s well that ends well. Machine now in and working properly, old machine disposed of at the tip.

And with a bit of extra time this weekend, a wrote a (short) post on my maths blog. I really do need to start doing so more often.  I enjoyed doing it when I did, and its (the blog) is a great resource/record – would be a shame to let it fall into disuse.

Last night we got battered by Storm Angus – very windy & noisy in the night, but no damage done.

After lunch today, I spent 30 mins with Sophie helping her with her maths – Core 1 circles, and Core 2 Trigonometry.  And now its time to go swimming with Sam. I could get used to these two day weekends!

Becky & Sophie went to IKEA yesterday. Alas, I was working so could not go. Sam chose to stay home alone.

Pic of the week 11/9/16

So (sadly!) this week we all returned to school – Sophie to start in the Sixth Form(!) and Sam into Y10, both at The Blue School (and me back to Millfield) – and time for the obligatory start of the year pic.

Sam has become a giant, towering over his big sister, must to his delight, and her chagrin. (He still hasn’t quite reached my height yet, much to my delight, and his chagrin.)

The pic below shows the transformation over the last four years.  Frightening!

Pic of the week 28/8/16

So, after what seemed liked a long wait since June, Thursday morning arrived, along with Sophie’s GCSE results.

I never doubted her, and she got 2 x A*, 4 x A and 4 x B’s – an excellent and well deserved haul.

A*s in maths & textiles, A’s in Science, Add Science, Geography and IT (BTEC distinction), Bs in Eng Lit, Eng Lang, Drama & German.

Very proud of her!

Pic of the week 21/8/16

Yesterday Sam & I joined Rog, Joe, Ned & Oli for a day’s paintballing for Joe & Ned’s birthday.

Sam & I set off at 8.30am to collect Oli before heading to Delta Paintballing, right by Bristol Airport where we met Rog & co. and a few of their friends.  We got kitted up and headed into the wood to do battle for the first of six game scenarios (or “maps” as today’s youth, brought up on a diet of CoD, would say.)

Was good fun but physically quite demanding.  Day was dry for the most part, but we had a heavy shower around lunchtime which led to one’s googles fogging up in the later games.  This, perhaps, explains the “patricide” incident: in the Zombie Apocalypse game  had gotten myself into a good position, sheltered by an Iso container, just shy of the enemy forces in front of me.  I was taking stock of my position, pondering my next move when I was raked by fire from above and behind!! Hit several times, there was nothing left for me but to accept my demise, hold my hand up and troop back to the deadzone to re-spawn.  As I did, I called up to the tower to my rear to see if the blues had taken it, or if it was still in red hands. It was the latter, I was the victim of friendly fire – at the hands of my son!

Ah, the fog of war.

Sam’s 14th Birthday and my how he has grown. The pic on the right shows him today, towering over his mother, the pic on left was from last summer.  This year he has grown from boy to man. (Still not quite my height – but only a couple of cms shorter than me.)

For his birthday he was more than happy with a clutch of X-Box games and a wad of hard cash!
